Megan turns 14

January 2018

Megan has grown a lot this past year and we are happy to celebrate her 14th birthday. She is now taller than Emma and Rachael and is quickly approaching my height. So much growing has meant replacing her wardrobe. She has benefited from hand me downs from her sisters and a few friends and she likes to visit second hand shops. She and I have also gotten a few chances to shop together as well. She enjoys shopping and has gained a reputation at school for putting together a great outfit. Amazingly she gets ready for school faster than any one else in the house. Up, dressed, fed and out the door in 30 minutes.

Megan is doing well in 8th grade and regularly helps in the library. She has a number of big projects this year and tends to opt to work in groups. Megan regularly can be found sitting on a fold-out foam love seat, that she claimed from our neighbors curb and dragged up the street, with her school computer in her lap casting a blue glow. She is also regularly found on her floor with a glue gun and craft supplies around her. Megs is a crafty girl. She also has a funny talent: she can turn a paper cup inside out.

She fluctuates between a dramatically messy room to a room worthy of a magazine spread. She has gathered a lot of things over her childhood and has begun to purge many of them. She has a basket  by her door for the items that no longer fit or she no longer wants. Megan is physically shedding her childhood before our eyes. She cut her long hair to short bob, it is really cute and somehow more mature looking.

Megan attends the teen youth group at a nearby church, dances two night a week and occasionally attends a girls scout event. There are lots of afternoons that I get a text from her asking if she can walk with friends to a local ice cream or coffee shop, after school. Megan is still one of the most empathetic people I know. Sometimes it is shared joy and sometimes discomfort or pain and as she gets older we have talked about the intertwining nature of those feelings and holding onto that joy. She brings me joy.

Happy 14th Birthday Megan!
