My Easter Beauties

Easter was a beautiful day and full of time with my Beauties.

And boy do I love teaching the Resurrection story to a 2 year old. Hanna has been repeating bits of the gospel and it just is wonderful to hear.

Cool Aid

Self expression and finding our individual place is a drive we all go through. The question of "Who am I?" is an important one, that I always hope is followed by "Who does God want me to be?". But on the everyday sometimes it is fun to do something new or try something that looked cool. That brings me to Cool Aid. Lots of people in our area especially those in their teens have been dying the tips or streaks of their hair in bright colors. $50 for hair color is not in our budget so when Rachael asked if she could do it I told her I wasn't opposed to it but I was not paying for it. This is when cool aid came up. Apparently you can dye your hair with cool aid.

I looked for colors that Rachael wanted and bought them. She followed directions up on the internet and then we set it up. Boiling water and finding jars the right size is the hardest part. Then she sat with her hair immersed in the cool aid liquid for 10-15 minutes. It turned out really well. Since her hair is dark to begin with the color change is subtle. She was happy with the dark reddish purple and will probably try new colors soon.

Hanna the Independent

Johanna is 2 years and almost 4 months old and at the rate she is going she might be moving out before her big sisters. Hanna is a head strong and so independent.

Some of her new things right now are:
Feeding the Cat- All by herself she opens the cabinet, gets a scoop of food and dumps it in Cobh's dish, puts the scoop back and closes the door.

Getting Breakfast - All by herself she gets the cereal out of the cabinet (usually chocolate cherrios) gets a bowl and spoon. She can't even see the spoons in the drawers by she feels around until she gets one. She gets the Almond milk out of the fridge and carries it all over to the table. She pours the cereal with my help and I pour the milk with her help.

Reading Bedtime Stories - Now she stands next to the glider as we read instead of sitting in our lap.

Putting her Coat On- Mrs. Masters the St. Mark's Pre K teacher showed us the trick of putting a coat on years ago and Hanna had it mastered since her first attempt.

Helping out - Johanna is proud to be useful and enjoys using the sponge to wipe off the table and she loves to be a baking helper. I think I will need to bake more often.

There is a lot of "No, I do it!" yelled at our house. and reluctance to hold hands- ever. Hanna does not like to have people ask her for hugs or kisses. She isn't completely against affection but she likes it to be on her terms.  And she is very proud when she realizes that she made someone happy. She can be very kind and has been sweet to sisters when they were sick. Johanna is a spunky and independent little girl, so very independent. It makes me savor the snuggly moments even more.
