Most of us went to the practice the day before so Jim could see Megan dance. She usually wears a skirt with her leotard, but I didn't bring it because they said it was a dress rehearsal and they had said that they were providing the skirts for the performance. I thought this meant they would have the skirts for the dress rehearsal. I was wrong and Megan was very sad she didn't have a skirt. She cried all through the tap practice even though a mom loaned her a skirt. But she did reluctantly do the ballet routine.
We decided that on Sunday that Bridget would come with me to the recital and Em and Rae would go with Papa to the baptism. We headed out about the same time.
I made sure we had plenty of time so I could get a good seat. We staked our spot on the isle of the auditorium and left our stuff in 2 chairs. We walked Megan down to the classroom where she received her skirt. the room soon became packed with pre-schoolers in bright leotards and matching skirts. Each class had a separate color leotard. Megan's class was red. She became anxious about me leaving and attached herself to my leg. This made it difficult to chase a very excited Bridget. The woman running the recital announced it was time for all of the families to leave and I was happy Megan joined her group willingly.
Then we loaded up and headed to the end of the Baptism party. Jim said it was a very nice Baptism and Evy did very well. We shared some food and delicious cake and chatted with the Brinks, Brohawns, and Sandkaulers as the kids played with JoJo. Emma, Rachael, Jim and I all took turns holding little Evy and I breathed in the wonderful aroma of the Chrism oil. I love that smell. I took a little video of Jim with Evy before we left.
Later that evening Jim and Megan sat down to watch the dance video only to discover I had rewound it and the tape began with Jim and Evy. I had a moment of panic and Jim had a moment of complete irritation. Megan though said " I can do it again right here and you can tape it." I love her attitude! Luckily it had taken Megan's group a long time to get on stage and start the ballet, so I only lost the first few seconds of the actual dance. Phew... Deep Breath...
A week later the flowers are still looking good on the dining room table and have been enhanced by some daffodils from our front yard. I broke a few of the Daffodils stems as we unloaded insulation from the Home Depot truck. We spent this Saturday blowing insulation into our attic. Jim had the honors of climbing, and crawling around the attic for 4 hours as I manned the hopper on the front porch and kept the insulation coming. Rachael and Megan had pitched in carrying insulation and also being lookouts and message runners for us during the project.
Emma missed all of the excitement because she was at a sleepover. We dropped the parenting ball and let her do a sleepover the night before an Up All Night Sports girl scouts event. I made her take a nap in the afternoon but had a feeling it wasn't enough sleep. The event started at 10PM and I picked them up at 5:30 AM after a night of swimming, racquetball, and rock climbing. She had an absolute blast but she really was Up All Night. She went to bed and slept till Noon, but it was obvious that was not enough. She was miserable physically and emotionally. She won't be doing those events again any time soon. While Emma slept the day away, Rachael and Megan were in our front tree enjoying the 70 degree weather. They built a tree house by wedging boards in between branches and they had a great time doing it.
This past week we had a mystery of the missing Lamby. Bridget had had it 5 days ago on Tuesday but by lunch it was nowhere to be found. I searched and picked up and had everyone else in the house looking for it. Bridget was sad and talked about Lamby. I was surprised there were no tears and she did sleep relatively well. She still had her pink blankie. Today was day 5 of the missing Lamby and just didn't know where it could be. This morning Bridget told me that Dora the Explorer and Boots would help get it back from Swiper. Swiper swiped her Lamby. While we were out I realized I hand't checked the oven of the Tinkerbell cafe. Sure enough Lamby was there. Bridget was so happy and walked around with Lamby the rest of the night rubbing him on her face and anyone else that was near. Happy Ending!
