4 1/2 months

Wow it has been awhile since I have posted, and it is certainly not because I have nothing to say. Quite the contrary. There are so many things going on and so many things I wish that I could capture that I find it hard to claim the time to get at least something out on screen. One of the most active in our house has been our little Hanna, and I want to share some of these things before they are in the permanent past. Infancy is so temporary.

Johanna is growing and maturing. Her hands have found each other. She grips them in front of her chest, one on top of the other. Depending on her eyebrows this looks prayful, or content, or delighted, or even mischievous. Her hands are also reaching out and she is grabbing for toys, or holding onto her bear or a burp cloth. There is usually a burp cloth around. She still spits up but mostly we use them for dabbing the drool.

Hanna is a smiler. We all love it. She loves our faces and is most likely to be upset if she can't see someone's face. She loves eye contact. All the girls are good at eliciting a smile, especially Rachael right now. There is something about the way Rachael looks at her that makes her light up.

Our little one twists on the changing table and last week I told Jim she looked like she was ready to roll over. He brought her out to the living room on a blanket and with some encouraging from him and Emma, over she went. I came out to witness her do it a second time. She is getting so big.

I brought her to the pediatrician for her check up and she weighed 14 lbs 7 ounces. She is right in the middle of the growth chart and is growing on a nice curve. Her rash is still around and flares up every so often but for the most part her skin looks pretty good with just a little cream now and again. Hanna will continue her reflux medicine and it seems to be doing the job. There have been a lot less fussy days, now she really only cries when she is tired or hungry. It can take some work to get her to sleep. She responds well to being swaddled and held in a cradle position then you add a bouncing and swaying motion and sometimes a pacifier and she'll conk out. Then she takes on the open mouth, long eyelash content baby look that makes you so want to watch her forever.

We are so lucky.
