Nearing Completion

This roller coaster of home improvement is in it's final cork screws of excitement. The drywall has been put up and the trim is just about done. Marrying the new addition to our 60 year old home has taken some finessing and I am grateful for our skilled contractors.

Because this addition is new space and not in our current footprint of daily life I have not been stressed about the progress. Jim and I check in with the crew and add input as needed, but it has felt more like observing a project through our window than an inconvenience. We have our side and they have their side.  The project has created lots of field trips though. We have gone on lighting fixture searches and we have looked through hundreds of paint samples. We narrowed our color choices down to a few per room and painted samples on the wall. The colors have been sent to the painters so that process is over but the fixtures and door hardware decisions are still unmade. Emma and Rachael have had a lot of input and each choose their own wall color. We also told them that they could pick their light fixture and this has created a lot of leg work. Emma wanted a vintage fixture and just today found an old metal fixture that she is going to paint and make her own. Rachael has decided on an antler light fixture, it should be fun.

This past week the our side/ their side arrangement changed. They removed the window and brick from Emma's wall to create and install the new 10-lite door, and our protective barrier that was our old back kitchen door has come down and has become a cased in opening. The comfortable arrangement is gone and inconvenience has now encroached. This also means that the end is getting near, we almost have our new space.

Today the painters came and began to prime the walls. In just one day the house is completely covered in dust and smells like paint. Next week the carpet goes in and then the finishing touch ups will take place.
