Megan Sweet Sixteen

Jan 29, 2020

Megan turned 16 years old and I sit in awe. God is good and we are blessed to see our middle little one, succeed and struggle, fail and learn, grow and mature. I treasure being witness to Megan discovering her strengths and growing in confidence. She is finding what she was created for.

Her birthday was a Wednesday and a school day. I sent her off to the bus with a yogurt/strawberry parfait at her request and after school Emma arrived and we headed to Outback Steakhouse for dinner. Jim was working but arranged to get off early and he met us at the restaurant. We had a fun meal as a restless Johanna moved around. We got an boomerang of desserts to share and we sang Happy Birthday before heading back to the house.  It was a treat to get to all be together and celebrate.

She asked to get a third ear piercing for her birthday. I resisted and we repeated the joke that the other 2 holes were gifts when she received a Sacrament, so she'd have to wait until marriage. Then Bridget piped up saying. Megan 's had 4 Sacraments so Megan should get two more piercings and I couldn't argue with that logic. Although we agreed just one more for now.

That weekend we scheduled for Megan to take her Driver's learner's permit  test, before she went to the farm to work. Katherine came with us because I was driving her to work as well. The lines were long but Megan passed, and then we headed to the Mall to get her ears pierced.  I had gotten a call from her cousin Joseph the day before and said he was calling to check to make sure there weren't any conflicts with Megan staying late on Saturday because they were throwing her a surprise birthday party at the farm after work.

Megan was so surprised as they jumped out at her while she was carrying the pizza for their dinner into the b&b after work. Megan was beaming when she told me about it and had a great time. It was a small group of her favorite people, a few from school and work. Joseph, Zach, Katherine, Rita, Savanah, and a VB friend, Ashley.  Megan spent the night and was all smiles when I picked her up the next day.

Happy 16th Birthday Megan! We love you!
