It is happening everyday. Aging. Getting a little bit older, A little more wear, a little more experience. But growing up- that is different. That is mostly the realm of children. Growing up means losing innocence and gaining knowledge. Not just knowing new things but knowing things in a different way. It is a little less "being in the moment" and more future planning. It is a little less about self and more about sacrifice and deferring personal wants. Growing up adds perspective and balance.
Megan is in that process and she is growing up beautifully. Some of the growing up process feels to me like a loss but so much of it feels like huge gains. Megan's innocence and sweetness is different from when she was three but now I see her making decisions and developing her character. I see her she making the intentional decision to be kind and feeling the pride that goes with doing the right thing. Megan still gets great joy by seeing other people's happiness. Megan is one of the most caring people I know and she brings me joy.
We celebrated our Megan on her Wednesday birthday with breakfast in bed and we were gifted with a 2 hour school delay because of snow. The delay made for a relaxed morning and we got time to do a little bit of party prep. Megan left for school smiling with a bag full of mini doughnuts to share. That evening Megan opened gifts and we all went out to dinner at Megan's selection, Old Country Buffet. It was a great day with a great girl.
Megan has aged to the double digit of 10 and she has grown up a little as well. She is such a beautiful soul.

Happy BD to Megan!
ReplyDeleteI smiled when I saw the last photo. I remember times when big sisters, who were still little themselves, would "help" the youngest one open presents because the little one was just too slow. Now there is our maturing Megan letting Hanna help her.
Love it! And love each of you,
Grandma Kate
