Our girls are pretty lucky. They have so many opportunities to do amazing things and this summer continues the trend. Emma and Rachael joined one of the local parishes for a youth service program for middle-schoolers called Summer Stretch. Rachael signed up for the 2nd year and Emma (having aged out) was asked to work as a peer minister for the every other day, 2 week program. Emma really enjoyed being a part of the prep, planning, prayer, and running of the program. It is a blessing to see Em thrive in service leadership positions. Plus she met some really great teens and young adults in the area.

Rachael has quite a servants heart and was really touched by the poverty she saw and the struggle she witnessed as she helped disadvantaged kids, the mentally ill, poor seniors, and the hungry. The program has opened her eyes to both the reality of poverty and also immersed her in the social dynamics of middle-schoolers. Rachael does not enjoy large groups where the kids all seem to be focused on fitting in. Rae loves her uniqueness and wishes more kids were happy being unique as well. By the end she settled into a more peaceful place socially and then gorged herself on Adrenaline at Hershey Park.

Megan spent last week enjoying a new camp. She decided to use the birthday gift of camp from Grandma Kate and PawPaw to try gymnastics. We found a gym that was in Columbia that had camp in the mornings. It was a pretty small camp with only 8 kids so Megan got lots of instruction. She was one on the older kids and became a leader of her group. Megan helped her group negotiate the group name of Ninja Unicorns and she had a bit of a fan club by week end. She got to try all kinds of equipment and was physically challenged all week. They did lots of trampoline and many exercises ended in foam pits. She was also queen of hide and go seek. Megan thoroughly enjoyed herself and is interested in continuing gymnastics. I'll deal with that question in a week or two when I have to get the fall schedule organized. Right now we are still enjoying summer camps.

Grandma is so impressed with how busy everyone is. I had trouble keeping up with 2 sons. Great going, Mom and Dad!
