Happy 9th Birthday Megan!

Megan has been fretting for weeks that her birthday is on a Tuesday this year.  I guess Tuesday can be a pretty lame day especially when you have school and Religious Ed. She had been spoiled with weekend and no school Monday birthdays for the past few years and didn't want this one to be lame.

We had our birthday dinner out Monday night. Megan chose Old Country Buffet, we all picked our favorite foods and they all enjoyed huge bowls of ice cream and toppings. We headed to bed in preparation for an early morning. We always celebrate a birthday with breakfast in bed but in order to do that with the whole family breakfast needed to be ready before Emma left for school at 6:45. Megan picked bacon waffles and bacon on the side. We woke her with song, breakfast and homemade cards. After sharing breakfast Megan climbed back up her ladder and slept for another hour. It was not a bad start to a Tuesday birthday. Having a birthday on a school day also allows you the opportunity to bring in a treat and share it with classmates. Jim picked up donut holes in the morning for her to bring. She was bouncing with excitement as she headed off to the bus with donuts in her backpack.

When she arrived home she was full of smiles and good stories. She got lots of birthday wishes from friends and teachers. Since she had religious ed we let Megan open her gifts after school. All of us gathered around to share the experience. Megan requested macaroni and cheese for dinner with baby carrots, so that is what we had. Then Megs headed off to St. Marks for class with a container full of cupcakes. Her day was full of happy moments, sweet treats, and so many kind words from the people that crossed her path.

Megan is such a blessing to us and I felt such joy in knowing that she was feeling special all day. Sometimes I worry that she doesn't realize how amazing she is, how generous and empathetic, how lovely and how easily she can make others feel good about themselves. It was her day to celebrated because we are all so glad, so blessed that she is here.

It turned out that Tuesday birthdays aren't too bad.
